Can the new Christian music replace the God songs of old in worship services? Personally I think it can. I know that I love singing “Shout to the Lord” just as much as “Amazing Grace” accompanied by a church full of believers. I’m pretty sure that a number of worship leaders are missing out on a golden opportunity.
To begin with is contemporary Christian music acceptable for worship? At most of the newer more modern churches it is normal fare. Unfortunately at the older churches there is a resistance to the newer Christian music. Does contemporary Christian music have a place in worship? That depends does it lift up and glorify God?
In my opinion these newer more current God songs such as “Shout to the Lord” are undeniably songs of praise and worship to god. I believe the problem is one of human nature. People naturally resist things that are new.
As with most problems there is more than one side. Most of the modern large churches do not use the old traditional hymns as part of their worship services. I think this is a move aimed at the younger crowd. Fearing that the youth may shy away from a more traditional service older God songs are often omitted. Of course the youth should be focused on, the message cannot be allowed to die off. Should the older crowd be completely ignored though? I’ve got a feeling that adding some traditional God songs will not chase the younger crowd away.
I feel that I should clarify I am just an observer that has an opinion. I am afraid that there is a barrier being created between Christians that unfortunately eliminates interactions. These interactions should prove rewarding for both sides. These God songs are created to bring Christians together, not cause a rift. This matter is fortunately easy to resolve. Just use God songs new and old in worship service.
I love church especially singing in church. How about a service that features “Amazing Grace” as well as “My Redeemer Lives” that would be great to me. Want to increase the roles on Sunday morning? Try mixing up the hymns a bit. In the church that I normally attend there is an amazing mixture of people. I mean it is normal to see a woman with a Mohawk singing and praising right next to a gentleman in a very nice suit. This to me is wonderful.
The generation gap seems to be the problem here to me. Over the years there has always been a natural resistance to embrace the new. This is true of most things not just Christian music. Which type of Christian music do you prefer? I love them both. You may be missing out if you refuse to give the newer Christian music a chance. It may be beneficial to you to listen to some of these new Christian songs. There are some very talented artists involved in Christian music these days.
